From the Mayor's Desk - May 2017

In January, I said here in the newsletter that I would not be seeking reelection as Mayor of The City of North Bonneville. Nothing in the ensuing months has changed my mind so I’m here again to encourage my fellow residents to give serious consideration to who would make a good next Mayor.

The reason I bring this up now is May is the month in which candidates must file with the Auditor’s office in Stevenson to run for elected office in Skamania County and North Bonneville.

Anyone interested in running for Mayor, or any other elected office in Skamania County, can submit a candidate declaration beginning May 1, 2017. The window for filing is May 15-19 and must be done in person at the Court House in Stevenson.

In other news, the Federal Government is making funds available for cleanup from the ice storms we experienced in January and February. We have applied and will announce the results as soon as we know them. Make no mistake, we will put things to rights, but some outside funding would certainly shorten the timeline for the task.

In the meantime, we truly appreciate any assistance we can get in piling downed branches along the streets and pathways. (Please note: Along means next to, not in or on. Thanks.) Our Public Works crew continues to pick up and dispose of the debris as quickly as their other duties allow and it goes a lot faster if there are piles for them to pick up.

Speaking of our Public Works crew, they have a lot on their plates right now. And their plates are filled with stuff from all of our plates. So please don’t engage them in discussions about how long it’s taking to recover from the winter storms. They already know and every minute they spend engaged in conversation is one less minute they have to do their jobs.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t all express our gratitude to them, but if you have a complaint or suggestion, please contact us at City Hall instead of speaking to individual city employees.

As always, we welcome your input and ideas regarding our city. Any leftover cookies can also be dropped off during normal business hours, 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday. Please contact me here at City Hall at 427-8182 or by email.
